Authors A.I. has one mission: to help fiction authors write books that readers will love. With that goal in mind, we created Marlowe, an artificial intelligence with a deep knowledge of fiction and bestselling titles. Marlowe is a beta reader, critique partner, developmental editor, and basic copy editor rolled into one smart, fiction-savvy algorithm. How Marlowe works

Our researchers have spent years analyzing thousands of bestsellers, as well as clunkers, to identify patterns. Which ingredients propel one book onto the bestseller lists while other books languish? Subject matter, plot turns, pacing, character traits, and story structure all play essential roles. You still need to put artistry, heart, and emotional resonance into your work. But if you’re out to write a page-turner that readers can’t put down, add data science to your craft.

We respect authors’ IP

Marlowe is a homegrown analytical A.I., not a generative A.I. Marlowe provides editorial feedback for you, the author, to incorporate or not. We do not train our model on the manuscripts submitted by authors. All of the titles in the bestsellers corpus we created for comparative analysis were provided by the publishing houses, by the authors, or were purchased and scanned in compliance with well-established copyright law. The founders of Authors A.I. are authors, too, and we respect the intellectual property rights of creators. For certain parts of this report, we partner with a small number of trusted small and large language models, resulting in a best-of-breed synthesis. In such cases, our company’s requirements to protect authors’ IP rights, privacy rights, and the security of uploaded manuscripts remain paramount and are similarly enforced.

Who we are

Authors A.I.’s three co-founders — Matthew Jockers, PhD, Alessandra (A.R.) Torre, and J.D. Lasica — are all bestselling authors who saw a need to harness the power of AI to help writers advance their careers. They were joined by 105 other bestselling authors as founding authors and shareholders in our Delaware C Corp. We are US-based and have excellent working relationships with all the major publishing houses as well as independent publishers. Our sister site, BingeBooks, is a leading book discovery site with more than 350,000 book titles.

A note about the creative process

We understand there’s no One True Way to write a novel. Some authors outline, others don’t. Some use AI to help write their novel, others use AI just for research or editing, and still others prefer to avoid AI altogether (though many don’t realize they’re already using AI whenever they use a tool like Grammarly or ProWritingAid).

At Authors A.I., we’ve chosen a middle course: We don’t use generative AI to write your novel for you. Our AI, Marlowe, offers suggestions about what works best in a bestseller — but we leave it up to you how and whether to incorporate the feedback.
